Bassman Themes

Pixelled

Making the digital effect of "pixels" is really actually easy. Using Photoshop that is.
So we're going to walk you through the steps to make this:

from this:

The first thing we're going to need is that image, so save it and open it in photoshop or, copy and paste it in.
Once we have it there, we're going to need to very quickly, select the entire canvas. While on the selection tool Right click the canvas and click "Select all"
On your keyboard press CTRL and C.
Then either click File > New and then "Ok" or press CTRL + N and then ENTER on your keyboard.
With the empty canvas I want you to press CTRL and V on your keyboard. You now have two of the exact same image, except with this one we're going to make some changes.

First click Image > Mode and then "Indexed Color"

Very simply we're going to click ok. It's set where we want it so we don't need to fiddle with anything.
Next we click Image > Mode and then Grayscale we'll get a warning

We do, so click okay.
And then click Image > Mode and then "Bitmap"

We do want to flatten the layers so click ok.

On this part we can set the output and the method. We don't want the image to get bigger so it's best to leave the output alone. (Nor do we want it to get smaller on us. That would ruin the effect)
The method... well I went with halftone Screen. It tends to do the best job, but you can try different methods out as they do give different effects.
When you're done, click Ok

This part will tell it how often to make a pixel, and what angle. These settings are completely up to you. Typically the default is good enough. The Shape for this, I wanted something small, diamond did the trick though I've seen some really good ones done with cross.
This is taste, so play with it!
CTRL + Z is undo so you can do it as many times as you want till you get what you want. For us tho, these are the settings we used.

Now select your entire canvas, copy it (CTRL + C) and paste it (CTRL + V) ontop of the other canvas. It's now a new layer overtop of the original one.
But alas it's not what we want. WE need to play with the layer settings.
So on your layer control you need to change the blend mode and the opacity. True you could get away with only changing one, but what would be the point then.
You can play with the blend mode, make it darken, lighten, screen, soft light.
When you want something only partially show though Soft Light and Screen work the best. We used Soft Light.

With that done we could use the image as is... but that wouldn't look as good, so we're going to lower the opacity.
Play with this to your tastes, we lowered it down to 50% opacity. Giving it pressence but not making it dominating.

Then it was a matter of adding a border and some text, simple enough to pass off as a digital or Pixelled Love.

Without any text or border the end result was this.
